    Uma proposta para o controle de qualidade de Tanacetum parthenium (tanaceto) e seu extrato hidroalcoólico

    In this study, we present a proposal for the physical and chemical quality control of the powder of the species T. parthenium (feverfew) and its hydroalcoholic extract obtained by percolation. The sesquiterpene lactone parthenolide, the main active compound of this plant, was quantified by HPLC and its content was found to be 0.49% in the powder and 1.06% in the extract. The total content of flavonoids, determined by UV spectroscopy, was found to be 0.54% in the powder and 1.05% in the hydroalcoholic extract. Santin, the main flavonoid of this species, was isolated and further identified in the extract by HPLC. Since parthenolide can also be found in other Asteraceae species, the analysis of santin is important to certify the authenticity of the plant material. The results confirmed the authenticity of the plant material and the efficiency of the extraction procedure.Neste trabalho, é apresentada uma proposta para o controle de qualidade físico e químico do pó de T. parthenium (tanaceto) e do seu extrato hidroalcoólico obtido por percolação. A lactona sesquiterpênica partenolídeo, o principal componente ativo da espécie, foi quantificada por CLAE e seu teor foi de 0,49% no pó e 1,06% no extrato. O teor de flavonóides totais foi determinado por espectroscopia no UV e foi de 0,54% no pó e 1,05% no extrato hidroalcoólico. A santina, principal flavonóide da espécie, foi isolada e posteriormente identificada no extrato por CLAE. Uma vez que o partenolídeo também pode ser encontrado em outras espécies de Asteraceae, a análise da santina é importante para certificar a autenticidade do material vegetal. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho confirmam a autenticidade do material e a eficiência do processo extrativo.FAPES

    Este artículo presenta una revisión de la legislación colombiana en materia de las leyes en salud y su influencia en la educación médica superior. Especialmente, centra su atención en analizar el decreto 2376 de 2010 y la Ley 1438 de 2011, que modificaron la actividad médica de los estudiantes de posgrados médicos. Para observar los efectos de estas normas, se realizó una encuesta a médicos residentes de los posgrados médicos de la Universidad Militar Nueva Granada. La investigación establece que una de las consecuencias de la legislación es el síndrome de Burnout en los especialistas en formación, dado que están aprovechando el tiempo libre para trabajar como médicos hospitalarios en instituciones de salud particulares sobrecargándose de trabajo.This article presents a review of Colombian legislation in the field of laws on health and its influence on higher medical education. It especially focuses on analyzing the Decree 2376 of 2010 and the Law 1438 of 2011, which changed the medical activity of medical postgraduate students. To observe the effects of these rules, a survey was conducted at resident doctors in the medical postgraduates of Universidad Militar Nueva Granada.     A Speech Recognizer based on Multiclass SVMs with HMM-Guided Segmentation

    Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) is essentially a problem of pattern classification, however, the time dimension of the speech signal has prevented to pose ASR as a simple static classification problem. Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers could provide an appropriate solution, since they are very well adapted to high-dimensional classification problems. Nevertheless, the use of SVMs for ASR is by no means straightforward, mainly because SVM classifiers require an input of fixed-dimension. In this paper we study the use of a HMM-based segmentation as a mean to get the fixed-dimension input vectors required by SVMs, in a problem of isolated-digit recognition. Different configurations for all the parameters involved have been tested. Also, we deal with the problem of multi-class classification (as SVMs are initially binary classifers), studying two of the most popular approaches: 1-vs-all and 1-vs-1

    Climate Cycles and Forecasts of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis, a Nonstationary Vector-Borne Disease

    BACKGROUND: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is one of the main emergent diseases in the Americas. As in other vector-transmitted diseases, its transmission is sensitive to the physical environment, but no study has addressed the nonstationary nature of such relationships or the interannual patterns of cycling of the disease. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We studied monthly data, spanning from 1991 to 2001, of CL incidence in Costa Rica using several approaches for nonstationary time series analysis in order to ensure robustness in the description of CL's cycles. Interannual cycles of the disease and the association of these cycles to climate variables were described using frequency and time-frequency techniques for time series analysis. We fitted linear models to the data using climatic predictors, and tested forecasting accuracy for several intervals of time. Forecasts were evaluated using “out of fit” data (i.e., data not used to fit the models). We showed that CL has cycles of approximately 3 y that are coherent with those of temperature and El Niño Southern Oscillation indices (Sea Surface Temperature 4 and Multivariate ENSO Index). CONCLUSIONS: Linear models using temperature and MEI can predict satisfactorily CL incidence dynamics up to 12 mo ahead, with an accuracy that varies from 72% to 77% depending on prediction time. They clearly outperform simpler models with no climate predictors, a finding that further supports a dynamical link between the disease and climate

    Comparación fisicoquímica y tecnofuncional del almidón de variedades de papa nativa (Solanum phureja) con almidones comerciales

    Due to the high genetic variability of the potato, the starch can exhibit different properties of interest to the industry. With the present investigation, it is intended to know these differentiating characteristics in comparison with commercial sources that can be useful in different sectors. Therefore, the objective of this research was to establish a comparison between potato starches extracted from native varieties (Solanum phureja) with commercial potato and corn starches. A physicochemical analysis was carried out, for which characteristics such as amylose content, phosphorus, resistant starch (RS), slow digestibility starch (SDS), rapid digestibility starch (RDS), granule shape, granule size and crystallinity were evaluated. The technofunctional analysis included variables such as amylographic, thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry analysis. The starches of the native varieties exhibited differential characteristics with respect to the commercial starches. Andina variety obtained the highest peak viscosity (8714 cP), followed by Ratona Blanca starch (6148 cP). In addition, these two varieties had the highest content of resistant starch (33.14±0.8) % and (28.9±0.7) % respectively), higher content of amylose (33.9 % and 35.5 % respectively), phosphorus (>0,08 % for both varieties), high crystallinity and higher enthalpy values (> 19 J/g for both varieties), which make them materials of potential use in different industries. The correlations presented between variables such as resistant starch (RS), enthalpy and crystallinity, showed possible differences at the structural level, which highlighted the differential characteristics of each starch.Debido a la alta variabilidad genética de la papa, el almidón puede exhibir diferentes propiedades de interés para la industria. Con la presente investigación se pretende conocer esas características diferenciadoras en comparación con fuentes comerciales que pueden ser de utilidad en distintos sectores. Por eso, el objetivo de este estudio fue establecer una comparación entre los almidones de papa extraídos de variedades nativas (Solanum phureja) con los almidones comerciales de papa y maíz. Se realizó un análisis fisicoquímico, para lo cual se evaluaron características como contenido de amilosa, fósforo, almidón resistente (RS), almidón de digestibilidad lenta (SDS), almidón de digestibilidad rápida (RDS), forma de gránulo, tamaño de gránulo y cristalinidad. El análisis tecnofuncional incluyó variables como análisis amilográfico, termogravimétrico y calorimétrico diferencial de barrido. Se halló que los almidones de las variedades nativas exhibieron características diferenciales con respecto a los almidones comerciales. La variedad Andina obtuvo el pico de viscosidad más alto (8714 cP), seguido del almidón Ratona Blanca (6148 cP). Además, estas dos variedades presentaron el mayor contenido de almidón resistente (33,14±0,8) % y (28,9±0,7) %, respectivamente), mayor contenido de amilosa (33,9 % y 35,5 %, respectivamente), fósforo (>0,08 % para las dos variedades), alta cristalinidad y mayores valores de entalpía (> 19 J/g para las dos variedades), lo que los convierte en materiales de potencial uso en diferentes industrias. Las correlaciones presentadas entre variables como almidón resistente (RS), entalpía y cristalinidad, evidencian posibles diferencias en lo estructural, lo que exaltó las características diferenciales de cada almidón

    Análise da inserção da educação ambiental em projetos políticos pedagógicos de escolas públicas de São Miguel do Oeste - SC

    Facing environmental crisis and harmful environmental impacts, Environmental Education stands out as the long-term environmental awareness tool and should be crafted cross integrative way, interdisciplinary subject in the curricula of formal education and as a central axis in Political Pedagogical Project. This research consists of critical analysis of how environmental education is included in school projects in primary education at three public schools in the municipality of São Miguel do Oeste -SC. It is a qualitative and desk research with subsequent analysis of the data found. Sought to rise and meet the references on cross-cutting and interdisciplinary theme in educational projects of the institutions, while that employed a structured questionnaire with closed questions, which were answered by representatives with teacher training. The analysis shows that environmental education has been developed primarily through extracurricular projects and there is no theoretical models or to be worked basis. The cross-cutting and interdisciplinary have little or insignificant mentions in projects without detail required for effective practice. The interviewees indicate that the theme has been extensively elaborated and developed in these schools, such that it becomes necessary to know the development of these school projects on the spot.Frente a crise ambiental e nocivos impactos ambientais, a Educação Ambiental destaca-se como ferramenta de conscientização socioambiental a longo prazo, devendo ser trabalhada de forma integradora, interdisciplinar, tema transversal nos currículos da educação formal. Essa pesquisa consiste em análise crítica de como a Educação Ambiental está inserida nos projetos escolares do ensino fundamental de três escolas públicas do município de São Miguel do Oeste- SC. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa e documental com posterior análise dos dados encontrados. Buscou-se levantar e conhecer as referências sobre transversalidade e a interdisciplinaridade do tema presentes nos projetos pedagógicos das instituições, ao mesmo tempo em que se empregou um questionário estruturado com questões fechadas, os quais foram respondidos por representantes com formação pedagógica. A análise dos resultados demonstra que a Educação Ambiental vem sendo desenvolvida principalmente por meio de projetos extracurriculares e não há base teórica ou modelos a serem trabalhados. A transversalidade e a interdisciplinaridade têm pouco ou insignificativas menções nos projetos, sem detalhamento necessário para sua prática efetiva. Os sujeitos entrevistados indicam que a temática vem sendo amplamente trabalhada e desenvolvida nessas escolas, de maneira tal que se torna necessário conhecer o desenvolvimento destes projetos escolares in loco
